Vincent Van Gogh voluntarily confined himself to the asylum in Saint-Rimy de Provence from May 1889 to May 1990.

Probably the most difficult period of his entire life, it would also prove to be one of his most creative as an artist. Painted in May 1889, Irises is vibrant in color and energy. Initially confined to the asylum grounds, Vincent paints the world he sees from his room, deleting the bars that obscure his view. In the asylum's walled garden he paints irises, lilacs, and ivy-covered trees. Although subject to intermittent attacks, van Gogh produces 150 paintings, including some of the most significant of his career, during his stay at Saint-Rimy.

Our canvas fine art replicas surpass most reproductions available in the market today. Each canvas is recreated in amazing detail so that even the subtlest brushstroke becomes vibrant. Artist-grade canvas is hand-stretched over wooden stretcher bars by skilled artisans and hand-coated with protectants to insure archival properties.

Approximately 4 inches wide, the clean lines of the merlot frame direct the eye to the focal point of the art. The stunning color of the frame, similar to a rich merlot wine, works with any home dicor. Unlike the starkness of black, merlot adds a richness designed to work with any furniture style.
