Story Behind The Art

The art of henna tattooing is an old tradition used for celebrating events or marking rituals. The art of applying henna to skins as the shades for lamps on iron frames, as an artwork, is a relatively new tradition that has been perfected by skilled artisans of Morocco. Our henna lamps are made by a small co-op of Moroccan artisans living in the Marrakech medina. They work together to select hides from the Marrakech tanneries, dye them, form the iron frames and assemble the finished pieces. They then use henna to apply a unique design to the lamp shade.

The handcrafted nature of this product will produce minor differences in design and sizing. Subtle variations will occur from piece to piece, adding to its unique qualities. Measurements may vary slightly.
