The Story Behind the Art

Marcos Luzalde is a self-taught artist who began to work at the age of 17 at a neighbor's workshop. After only a year, Marcos decided to take the plunge and venture on his own, gradually gaining renown for the beauty and quality of his work. To Luzalde, his craft is like a hobby; he's been dedicated to it for over 35 years and to him it feels like only yesterday when he began. 'Woodwork makes me feel good about myself because it means it's a way of preserving an aspect of Peruvian artistry,' confides the carver.
