Story Behind the Art:
Sarouk is a small village in central Iran known for geometric patterns of the knotted carpets. These are called Sarough or Sarouk Carpets. The carpets are made using high quality wool in workshop as well as household looms. The traditional rug has herati and boteh patterns all over or in the medallion layout. The medallion can be of almost any geometric shape. Most famous of all is a medallion and corner layout. After World War I a branching type medallion was introduced keeping in mind the international specifically American Markets. Traditional colors are red, blue, burnt orange, ocher and champagne. For American sarough, the colors are rich red and blue. Lighter shade of red, yellow and turquoise are used for outlines.
