The Story Behind the Art

This artfully woven rug traces its origin to 18th century France. Although they adorned the palaces of royalty, they were made in a humble building previously used as a soap factory. Hence the trade name 'Savonnerie' rugs, from the French word for soap. The design is actually carved and produces very deep, well defined images. As they age, the colors mellow and produce a very warm feel.



The handcrafted nature of this product will produce minor differences in design and sizing. Subtle variations will occur from piece to piece, adding to its unique qualities. Measurements may vary slightly.
