The rug weaving traditions of Kashan date back centuries. As an important station on the ancient caravan route between Kerman and Isfahan, Kashan has long attracted skilled artisans to reside within its walls. The pile of this premium quality rug is crafted from 'kurk' wool - the finest grade wool taken only from the neck area of sheep under 18 months of age. The market value of kurk wool is often higher than that of natural silk. This rug is approximately 30 years old and it is in overall excellent condition, structurally and aesthetically. It features a red background, navy border and accents of light blue, ivory, brown, olive, and gold.
