The Story Behind The Art

Oriental alabaster has been crafted in Egypt since ancient times, into works of art and utilitarian items. Handcrafting alabaster continues to be an art among many artisans. Our artisans, despite working with limited and dated equipment, are able to turn out wonderful items, relying on their hand/eye coordination and skill. Alabaster boulders provide the bulk of alabaster for artisans, and these have to be reduced to manageable blocks in order to be worked. The availablility of marble, granite and a myriad of other stones has made Egypt a center for marble workmanship for thousands of years.

The handcrafted nature of this product will produce minor differences in design and sizing. Subtle variations will occur from piece to piece, adding to its unique qualities. Measurements may vary slightly.
